After Hours: Victor Murphy

What did you do to prepare yourself for the role of “Victor Murphy” in the series Codename: Danger?
The normal routine. I read the script, I rehearsed it over and over with my mirror, my wife, my kids, my mailman. The morning of auditions, I went in with a huge smile and as much confidence as I could muster and performed to the best of my ability. I had three callbacks and was told that I’d know the result by week’s end.

What’s surprised you the most about being selected for this role?
Uh…haha…the sex scenes or more specifically the topless scenes. Not even kidding. One of the stipulations in my contract was to keep my shirt on. I didn’t want to do nudity or anything in the role. I got the call from my agent telling me that they were considering me for the role and saw that line in my contract and it was pushing them to another actor, Gary Stone who had auditioned two days before me. So he goes ‘Vic, man, you have to reconsider your stance on the no nudity thing if you want to bag this role.’ I was still a little, you know, eh…this is something my kids and my family is going to see. Do I really want to show my ass to them and everyone else I know? So after really thinking it over I finally had to come out of my own ways and just go for it. Roles like this don’t come every day. The series lasted seven seasons and in that time I made some truly wonderful friends and learned so much about the business that I don’t think I would have had I continued to refuse. I’m very grateful for Codename: Danger.

After Hours: Mica Kimura

What did you do to prepare yourself for the role of “Mica Kimura” in the series Codename: Danger?
Nothing really. Other than reading the script A LOT. I have a terrible memory so I had to make sure I didn’t mess up my lines.

What’s surprised you the most about being selected for this role?
I had been a fan for a long time and when I got the call to do a small role as a blind date I was thrilled. All of the guys are great looking, but I had the biggest crush on Dusty. When I found out he was the one I was paired with, I was even more excited for the role.

What’s the biggest myth about playing a character in Codename: Danger?
That everyone has to know how to use a gun. I just know to point the shooty end away from me and that’s about it. I was really glad I wouldn’t have to do any action scenes. Well, many action scenes.

What’s the most challenging part about your role?
The on screen sex scenes. I’m a shy person so the idea of having to ‘perform’ with people watching really freaked me out. Luckily I was paired with Dusty and he was great at helping to calm me, and ease my fears. It also helps he’s freaking HOT! In the end, getting that close to a person naturally, at least for us, lead to an off screen romance.

After Hours: Dustin Kimura

What did you do to prepare yourself for the role of “Dustin Kimura” in the series Codename: Danger?
My agent called me to let me know there was a casting call and they were looking specifically for an Asian male to play in one of the leads. So of course I’m thinking “oh great, there are only like five of us in Hollywood and it’ll most likely go to Jet Li, Daniel Dae Kim or John Cho.” But it would have been my luck they’d choose Bobby Lee. But I looked over the script enthusiastically, my interest growing more and more as I saw how detail oriented with technology the part called for. That of course caused me to doubt my chances of winning the role even more. The day of the audition I went in, mouth dry and palms sweaty and who do I see leave the audition booth before me? Yep, Bobby fucking Lee. Honestly I was about to turn around and leave right then but I had made the forty-five minute drive through traffic to get there and I needed to just believe in myself and my ability. And I gotta say I pretty much nailed it. Later on I heard that Bobby was only there filming a piece for one of his side projects. Still, it twisted my stomach in knots seeing him.
